What is CBG?

In recent years, cannabinoids have gained popularity for their potential health benefits, with Cannabidoil (CBD) at the forefront. However, there's another compound found in the cannabis plant that's starting to gain attention for its unique properties: Cannabigerol, or CBG. What is CBG?

Similar to CBD, CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it doesn't produce the "high" associated with THC. It is often referred to as the “Mother of All Cannabinoids” as its acidic form (CBGA) is essential for the formation of other cannabinoids. One of its distinguishing features is its ability to bind to cannabinoid receptors in the body such as CB1 and CB2, which play a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes. However, more robust research is still needed to further confirm the detailed effects of CBG and the body.

CBD vs. CBG: What is the difference?

While CBD and CBG are both cannabinoids, they differ in composition which causes them to bind differently to specific receptors in the endocannabinoid system in the body. Here are some ways in which initial studies show how CBD and CBG are similar and different:

Photo Source: Endoca (Reference details below) Similarities: CBD and CBG overlap in many areas and one is not necessarily “better” than the other.

  • Anti-inflammatory Properties: Both CBD and CBG can help reduce inflammation in the body.

  • Inhibit cancer cell growth: Preliminary studies suggest that both may have the potential to possibly inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

  • Antioxidant Properties: They both help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.

  • Neuroprotective Effects: Both cannabinoids show promise in protecting nerve cells from damage.

  • Mood-Boosting Benefits: CBD and CBG can have a positive impact on mood and overall well-being.

Areas of Specialization: Due to the unique interactions of CBD and CBG with our cannabinoid receptors, this leads them to specialize in different areas. CBG:

  • Uplifting Effect: CBG has energizing properties that help enhance focus and motivation.

  • Antimicrobial and Antibacterial Benefits: Research has shown that CBG has potential in combating bacterial infections.

  • Aids Appetite Stimulation and Digestion: CBG can help stimulate appetite and improve digestive health and bowel movement.

CBD

  • Calming Effect & Stress Relief: CBD is renowned for its relaxation properties to help soothe the mind and body, which can also make it an excellent option for stress management.

  • Aid in Managing Anxiety and Depression: As an alternative to pharmaceutical medications, CBD can help manage anxiety and depression.

  • Promotes Sleep: Research has shown that CBD can help improve sleep quality and aid in addressing insomnia.

What is the benefit of taking CBG with CBD?

The "Entourage Effect" describes how the various compounds in cannabis—cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes—work together to produce enhanced effects within the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). The theory suggests that the combined presence of these compounds amplifies their individual effects, creating a "strength in numbers" scenario. Different compounds may enhance the overall impact in various ways. Some may increase the absorption rate of other cannabis compounds, while others might bind to receptors that other compounds cannot access. This collaborative interaction ensures that the cannabis compounds exert the maximum possible influence on the ECS, leading to a more effective and potent response.

By combining CBG with CBD, you can harness the power of the Entourage Effect!

As always, if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.
